HP EliteBook Folio Ultrabook 9470m Coming in June

The HP EliteBook Folio was another announcement among many this week that indicates HP is still very much focused on their PC division, despite the news last year they might try to sell it. The EliteBook Folio 9470m is essentially a larger size version of the current Folio 13 we reviewed. It comes with a 14” matte screen that has a 1366 x 768 resolution and is a slim 0.75”. Despite that thinness there is a fully bevy of ports including three USB 3.0, DisplayPort, VGA, Ethernet, headphone/microphone jack and even a docking connector. Having the docking connector on the EliteBook Folio is a particular coup as it will allow for an easy way to expand available ports when at your desk, this is the first Ultrabook to have such a feature. Furthermore, the docking connector can be used to add an extra 6-cell battery to double battery life.

Performance wise the Folio 9470m should be able to handle any business task you throw at it. The processor will be a 3rd generation Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge family CPU, allows expansion room for up to 16GB of RAM, up to a 256GB SSD or 500GB HD and Intel HD 4000 graphics. Other notable features include a spill resistant keyboard, pointing stick, 720p web camera, optional built-in 4G mobile broadband connectivity, and fingerprint sensor.

The weight of the Folio 9470m will be around 3.6lbs, making it easy to carry around yet with an all aluminum design it’s going to be resistant to the knocks and bumps that come with travel. Availability is set for June 2012, no word on pricing as of yet, but expect it to ring up around $1,000 or so.
