HP ENVY 4 and ENVY 6 Ultrabook Specs and Pictures Revealed

It looks as if HP will be following up it’s ENVY 14 Spectre with a couple more ENVY branded Ultrabooks. The HP ENVY 6 will be a 15.6” screen Ultrabook with Intel Core i5 processor while the ENVY 4 will be a slightly smaller 14” screen Ultrabook. Detailed specs for the ENVY 6 are as follows:

While there are no glossy media images to provide of the ENVY 6, we do have some images taken from support docs for the upcoming ENVY 4 and 6:



It’s pretty obvious from the above image that the ENVY 6 is going to have an all black look with a brushed metal finish on the case. It’s hard to tell exactly, but the look would seem quite similar to the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook with its all black finish. It’s no surprise that the ENVY 6 will have an island style keyboard, the image below indicates where all of the LED indicator lights will be placed on the keyboard area for indicators such as power on, mute, wireless on/off, Caps Lock and touchpad disable:



We also know the touchpad will have integrated touch buttons and offer the ability to switch off the touchpad with a tap on the top left side thanks to the TouchPad diagram for the ENVY 6:



While we don’t have all the detailed specs for the ENVY 4 model like we do the ENVY 6, it’s not too hard to figure out the pattern here. The HP dv6t is a 15.6” screen laptop, as is the ENVY 6, and therefore since the HP dv4 is a 14” screen laptop we can comfortably assume the ENVY 4 will be very similar to the ENVY 6 but with a 14” screen, lighter weight and most probably thinner profile.

Since this upcoming Ultrabook will be using the 1.6GHz Intel Core i5-2467M Sandy Bridge family processor that’s in a lot of current Ultrabooks, it would seem there won’t be much of a wait for the release as the ENVYs won’t rely on the new Ivy Bridge platform that has some supply constraints for Core i5 and i3 processors at the moment. The Intel Core i5 should provide plenty of power for most users, so you can’t fault HP there. Plus, the ENVY 6 will come with and AMD 7670M GPU for an extra 3D performance boost. The AMD 7670M is a middle class graphics card that will give the ENVY 6 some gaming capabilities, but don’t expect to be able to play the latest games at high detail settings. Whether the ENVY 4 sports this GPU is undetermined, it may not be able to support the thermals with its smaller profile.

It seems the resolution of the ENVY 4 & 6 screen will be a standard 1366 x 768, we can only hope there’s a higher resolution offered. If that’s not the case, we’d expect the price to be quite low, say in the $800 – $1,000 range, and most certainly lower priced than the edgy designed $1,399 ENVY 14 Spectre Ultrabook we recently reviewed, it has a 1600 x 900 resolution screen standard. The standard storage for the ENVY 6 will be a 500GB hard drive with assistance from a 32GB mSATA SSD, which again suggests a more budget level price tag. Lenovo will be releasing its IdeaPad U310 and U410 Ultrabooks with a $699 price to start, it will be interesting to see if HP challenges that price barrier. If HP announces these new ENVY laptops next week alongside its announcements for the company’s new Ivy Bridge Pavilion laptops, we’ll know the full details and hopefully price all in short order.
