Lenovo ThinkPad W530 Announced

The new ThinkPad W530, an update to the W520, was today announced by Lenovo and will be hitting the virtual store shelves in just a few weeks. The W530 will feature the latest Intel Ivy Bridge set of processors. The ThinkPad W530 will come with the option of a Full HD (1080p) 270-nit wide angle viewing display that has 95-percent color gamut and built-in color calibrator. The W530 is ISV-certified and is geared toward those that need extreme processor and graphic performance combined with mobility.

The ThinkPad W530 will get a new keyboard in the form of what Lenovo is calling the “ThinkPad Precision Keyboard”, the company is claiming this as a new and improved keyboard experience over previous generations. Somewhat controversially, the new keyboard will use a chiclet style design and go to down to 6-rows of keys from the 7-rows always seen in older ThinkPads. There will be an option for a backlit keyboard, the top of the screen keyboard illuminating ThinkLight will still be present as well.

Here’s a complete rundown of the new features in the ThinkPad W530:

The ThinkPad W530 will of course feature the new Intel 3rd Generation Core processors, known as Ivy Bridge. There are no specific on which graphics card the W530 will feature, but we do know it’s dedicated Nvidia Quadro graphics. Lenovo is claiming a 40% better boot time than typical Windows 7 laptops thanks to Lenovo Enhanced Experience 3.0 with RapidBoot technology. For even faster boot times there will of course be SSD storage options, mini-SATA SSD and RAID 0 or RAID 1 configs thanks to the dual storage bays.

The ThinkPad W530 will be available in early June and pricing will start at $1,529.
