Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Introduced, a 14” Screen Business Ultrabook

The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Ultrabook is coming this summer, and let’s just say there’s a lot to look forward to. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon will, as its name directly suggests, use a premium carbon fiber roll cage and case for a highly durable yet light weight protection and shell. The X1 will use a 14” screen that has a high resolution 1600 x 900 display with 300-nit brightness.



The X1 will weigh right around 3lbs and be under 0.70” thin, that’s thinner and lighter than many of the 13” Ultrabooks on the market so this is quite a feat for engineers at Lenovo. This wafer thin machine will still make room for the new Intel Ivy Bridge processor to be packed inside, though it will be a lower voltage variety.

Ports available will include an SD card reader, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, mini-DisplayPort and dual headphone/microphone jack. The power jack will have a unique rectangle design, sort of like that found on the MacBook, to allow for the extreme thinness.

The keyboard will be the same as that seen in all the other new ThinkPads, using a chiclet style design with 6-rows of keys. The keyboard will be backlit, making it easy to do work in dimly lit rooms or on a night flight. There will of course still be a pointing stick and ultranav buttons, Lenovo is saying the keyboard is equivalent in quality and feel to any regular ThinkPad despite the ultra-thin form factor. You’ll also get a touchpad with integrated buttons and a fingerprint reader.



Storage will come in the form of an SSD with either 128GB or 256GB of capacity. There will be a Rapid Charge feature that allows for the battery to be charged from 0% to 80% capacity in the space of 30-minutes, no word on what the exact quoted battery life will be at this time. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon will be available sometime this summer, there is no exact month and date set for the release. No price has been mentioned yet either, though you can expect it to carry a premium price tag given all of the features available.
