HP ENVY Spectre XT Ultrabook Announced, Available June 2012

HP released announced a bunch of new Ultrabooks today, including a new premium 13.3” screen model dubbed the ENVY Spectre XT. As we previously wrote HP actually started selling the ENVY 4t and ENVY 6t. The ENVY Spectre XT stands out as it will be the first Ultrabook from the company that has the new Intel Ivy Bridge 3rd generation Core i5 processor. The Spectre XT differs quite a bit from the current premium ENVY Spectre 14 in that it skips the glass finish and goes with an all metal design. Despite being clad in aluminum this laptop weighs in at only 3.07lbs and has a wafer thin thickness of 0.57”. Battery life comes in at around 8 hours, making this an all day use battery should you be stranded and away from an outlet. Ports included are an essential USB 3.0, HDMI and Ethernet jack – there is no media card slot though. As you would expect, storage is supplied by an SSD that has 128GB of capacity. The full base level specs of the ENVY Spectre are below:

Screen: 13.3-inches (1366 x 768 resolution)
Processor: Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge low voltage
Memory: 4GB 1600MHz DDR3
Storage: 128GB SSD (with a 256GB SSD upgrade option)
Input devices: Backlit Keyboard and HP Imagepad
Connectivity: 802.11a/g/n, 2×2 WLAN, Bluetooth, Intel Wireless Display
Ports include: Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0 (1), HDMI
Dimensions: 12.87” x 8.70 x 0.57” (Width x Depth x Thickness) (metric: 327 x 221 x 14.5 mm)
Weight: 3.07 lbs.
Battery life: 8 hours
Included software: two-year subscription to Norton Internet Security, full versions of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements 10
Audio: Beats Audio with quad speakers
Web Cam: HP TrueVision HD Webcam
Warranty: 1-year
The starting price will be $999 with the above configuration, which brings it in at a much lower starting price than the ENVY 14 Spectre. Basically this model will compete head on with the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook in terms of price and specs – and some might say looks! Then again, the Dell XPS 13 and ENVY 14 Spectre both look like the MacBook Air, so it’s really just a case of everyone following the same design cue. Availability for the ENVY XT is set for June 8, and if you can’t wait to order you can reserve yours now on HP.com to get to the head of the line!
