HP Pavilion dv6 2012 Model with Ivy Bridge gets Reviewed

The updated HP Pavilion dv6 2012 model is set to go on sale in the U.S. on April 29th, but CNET Asia got an early look at this much anticipated laptop model. The new dv6-7000 has the latest Intel Ivy Bridge processor and Nvidia dedicated graphics. CNET awarded the laptop 4 out of 5 stars citing the 15.6” matte screen with 1920 x 1080 display as a strong point along with the performance increase over last years model. Unfortunately the model they received had some craftsmanship defects, such as a buckled touchpad, and they dinged HP for quality control issues there. Being a reviewer myself I’m not surprised to see such a thing, early release models often do have quality issues before the manufacturing line is well oiled in putting together a laptop. Frankly I don’t think the anecdotal evidence of one laptop having a build problem means they all will, but it is stunning that HP wouldn’t check over review models they send out. A major PR flub on there.



The price of the Pavilion dv6 will start at $749, quite a bargain for the technology you get inside, but then HP has really made a reputation for itself over the past couple of years for being the company to go to when looking for the most bang for the buck. The PCMark 7 results were 4,182 and 3DMark 11 results 2,289 for the review unit. That’s an impressive score and indicates this laptop is more than capable for gaming needs. Battery life came to 5 hours with the 8,550mAh 9-cell battery, which is a bit on the low side, a 6-cell would only get around 4-hours. No indication was given as to what the Windows power settings or usage scenario was to get that 6-hour score though.
